What is the Community Work-Study Program?
The Community Work-Study (CWS) Program offers students the opportunity to earn their financial aid awards (work-study) while working off-campus at a local organization throughout Duluth.
All community work-study positions support community-driven, service-based opportunities that allow students to work on community issues, develop new leadership skills, and build their professional network while expanding the capacity of a local organization. Through community work-study, students also have an opportunity to contribute to community change by dedicating significant collaborative time with community partners in advancing a local project. All majors are welcome.
Community work-study positions range from approximately 7-15 hours per week. Students are paid $15.25 per hour.
All community work-study placements will be asked to participate in additional training and workshops hosted by UMD Engage. Training topics include equitable community engagement practices, networking opportunities, and work skills for community work-study placement. Additionally, community work-study placements may count volunteer recruitment activities at UMD for their host organization as part of their work study hours.
